Description

So I'm quite proud of the characters, but highly disappointed in the background. I need to figure out how to do backgrounds and how to blend the characters in. *clueless* So yeah. Yeah.

._.

I wanted to write a critique, but then I realise I was too dumb to do it properly. So I thought you wouldn't mind if I pointed out those aspects that could be improved.
Let's start with the overall impression. I can see you wanted to give a dark, mysterious feeling to this art, so you used dark colours, which is perfectly reasonable. The problem is that the whole thing lacks contrast. Contrast is, in my opinion, that one aspect that makes a piece of art expressive, even if the artist is not very skillful. Art is about strong feelings...the stronger the contrast, the stronger the emotion. At least, that's how I see things. It's true that those 2 characters do stand out, however I can barely see they're standing on a chessboard. You named this piece "CHESS Royal Couple", so the first thing to hit me (or anyone else that sees it) should be that checked board under their fit (not only because of the title, but because of reasons: That board is, theoretically, black and white. The characters are dressed in black. so why would the white of the characters be whiter than the white of the board?). It is clear that you focused on the characters and backgrounds are my weak point, so I shouldn't be the one talking, not about backgrounds, but you should be more confindent and make those stars and that floor stand out more.
Next, the characters. Not much to say, except the fact that the guy's pose seems a little unnatural and that I can't tell his feet apart from the floor (so, again, contrast!). I really like the way you painted their hair. ;)
         Hope it helps.^^
